Should You Buy? Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas [Nintendo Switch]

Image
I have never thought through buying a game so hard in my life.  Oceanhorn isn't a full $60 title, but sometimes indie games are a gamble.  You have to just throw your money into the wind and hope that whatever comes back is worth the while. The game shows its roots very quickly and without shame.  This is a Legend of Zelda "clone", make no mistake about it.  While we are on the subject of cloning, let's talk about the objections to such a practice.  Some people think that it isn't moral.  That we shouldn't be playing god and creating life.  The main argument against cloning that I want to focus in on is the idea that whatever comes out of the clone won't be exactly the same.  That argument is very relevant in this review. Let's talk about controls! Left stick to move, A B X Y for actions/attacks, ZR for shielding and that is about it.  It is simple, which is not inherently a bad thing!  This game is really ea...

ARMS Isn't a Knockout Punch

Image
The following opinion is mine and mine alone.  If you disagree, that's fine! I love when people enjoy games.  The following thoughts are why I can't get into the game as much as I would have liked.  For clarity's sake, I play single player and never with others in a local multiplayer fashion.  That is the point of view this opinion is coming from.  Isn't it sad that I feel as if I have to type out disclaimers on an opinion piece because the Nintendo fan culture can be so toxic and hateful to dissenting opinions at times?  When you first boot up ARMS and get into the online "party" mode, the game shows that it is polished.  The game presents itself well.  There is one fundamental problem though.  Once you have the game and aren't limited to 1-hour play sessions (like in the "test-punch"), the game is a shell of what it could have been.  This game has a lack of content.  Plain and simple.  There are a ton of people that ...

Does the Upcoming South Park Game Cross a Line?

Image
Before I start, I know what you are thinking.  "This is going to be some whiney article that wants the South Park franchise to fail."  Well, that is where you are very wrong.  I loved the first game, "South Park: The Stick of Truth", even if it made me uncomfortable sometimes with its humor.  That uncomfortable feeling is kind of what the creator's go for.  That is fine, but we need to call this out for what it is.  Disturbing.  To a level that makes me not want to buy this game.  I hope you enjoy my personal opinion about the subject.  Thanks for reading.  I feel like South Park creators and producers are probably used to getting all kinds of criticism.  They make shows that are meant to offend and make fun of people in a way that we can relate to (sometimes).  I never thought I would be in a position to do this before, but I have been thinking a lot about this.  Does South Park: The Fractured But Whole cross a lin...

Fire Emblem Warriors is $20 More on Switch..for....Reasons?

Image
I was recently engaged in a heated debate that morphed into personal attacks on Twitter for asking one simple question.  "Why does the Switch version cost $20 more?" The answers I received were disturbingly uneducated.  The most prevalent response that I received was "Console games are always 60 and handheld games are always 40. That is the way that it has always been."  While this excuse is convenient for the Nintendo fanboys among us, it makes 0 sense from a consumer advocacy standpoint. The game on Switch is technically different than the one on 3DS.  I will now list the differences that I can find.  1) It has HD assets. (The joke is that the list is small and that there is only one difference.) Now I could be wrong about this, and I will eat my hat if I am, but I cannot find any other differences between the 3DS game and the Switch version. Another excuse that I received as to why it was ok for the Switch version to be more expensive was be...
